Malaysian Air was founded as MAS in 1971 when Malaysia-Singapore Airlines was split into 2 carriers by their respective governments. Malaysian operates an enviable service from Kuala Lumpur internationally and domestically. Due to the 1998 Asian economic turn down in Asia and the new KLIA Airport, many airlines deserted Kuala Lumpur leaving the bulk of flights to Malaysian. Malaysian itself has suffered as of late even as the Asian economy roared back.
