Eastern Airlines Timetables, Route Maps, and History
Timetables, Route Maps, and History from Eastern Airlines. Eastern, founded in 1926, was at one time the largest airline in the free world in terms of passenger count. With services concentrated along the U.S. East coast and eventually adding service to London and Latin America, Eastern was not the most beloved carrier but it was successful. Eastern invented the New York-Boston-Washington Shuttle concept. Eastern was generally successful, but its fortunes changed beginning with the 1986 takeover by Frank Lorenzo´s Texas Air Corporation. Eastern declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1989 and shutdown on January 16, 1991.
