American inaugurated its first overseas routes in 1970 with 707 service to the South Pacific. American discontinued the routes by 1975 when it traded for Caribbean from Pan Am. Caribbean destinations began in March, 1971 with the purchase of Trans Caribbean Airlines. AA had also just launched transcon 747 flights in September 1970. Two years earlier American, in 1968, American launched it's current livery.
