American Airlines Timetables, Route Maps, and History
Timetables, Route Maps, and History from American Airlines from 1933 to the present. American Airways was developed from a conglomeration of 82 small airlines through acquisitions in 1930. It was known as an innovative and large, profitable carrier with many first including the first owned jet service in the U.S. and inventing the frequent flyer miles program. By 2000, with its purchase of TWA, AA was the largest airline in the world. AA was surpassed by Delta / Northwest in 2007 and United / Continental in 2010 and is now the third largest airline in the U.S. AA was the only U.S. legacy carrier not to file bankruptcy in the 2000s but this and a host of other factors led to its 2011 bankruptcy filing.
