Delta began in 1925 as Huff Daland Dusters, a crop dusting company in Macon, Georgia and then Monroe, Louisiana. It became Delta Air Service in 1929 when it began carrying passengers upon being purchased by the legendary C.E. Woolman. Delta is directly or indirectly a descendent of 13 airlines and has impressively become the world’s largest airline in terms of fleet size, revenue passenger-kilometers flown, and scheduled passenger traffic. Regardless of its size, Delta retains a family feel about it and is always quick to celebrate its proud history; often in the form of commemorative books, and special issues of the inflight magazine “Sky” and internal employee magazine “Delta Digest”.
